Severe Heat

The Summer months are unforgiving, do yourself a favor and start work earlier, to gain the progress that you would lose by working in the heat.

Take the time to set up a canopy, to create a shaded work area.

Fill 5 gallon igloos with ice water and keep disposable cups freshly stocked.

Stay hydrated and drink less alcohol , caffeine and sugary drinks.

Eat lite during lunch to prevent that sluggish feeling that promotes laziness.

Dress in lite attire ,wearing breathable fabrics.

Work smarter not harder, reduce excessive actions by planning out task and reduce unnecessary trips for tools and materials.

Take frequent breaks and retreat to cooled/air conditioned areas to dissipate heat build up.

Keep your head covered and use visors and shaded safety glasses.

I’ve worked outside all over the country for 9 years, but this Arizona heat is the real deal, as always …

Be Safe Out There!

DON’T BE A HACK

Just a small token of advice…

Don’t become or continue to be a HACK …

If you consider yourself as a good Electrician or a Professional of any sort.

Don’t BE A HACK!

There’s nothing worse than the Tradesman who dosen’t plan out their work ,and finds themselves up and down a ladder for simple hand tools. It all begins with preparation ,and speed comes with time. You’ll get faster as a result of doing the same types of task over time. The thing that is most important in the apprenticeship stage ,is to learn and experience the craft in its entirety.

Most guys who work fast are notorious for skipping steps ,using tools improperly or they’re reluctant to complete an install at 100% because they don’t think that it’s important to install all of those little things, that make a project complete.

I Highly Recommend

  1. Get up early enough to shit, shave and shower, meal prep your food so that you can get something decent in your stomach to be proactive in how you start your day.
  2. Be on time ,and that means being 10 to 15 minutes early. The self urgency of being punctual ,breeds a reliable Professional.
  3. Have a good attitude, whether you’re going through life’s endless bullshit or you don’t like who you’re assigned to work with, learn to separate those emotions from business!
  4. Be the best you, always strive for that 110% , for me that means not getting boozed up or staying up late during the week, knowing that I’m scheduled for work.
  5. Read Religiously, the NEC book is the best tool in your arsenal. The key to the code book, is learning how to NAVIGATE it well. Take a code course or check out MikeHolt.com for decent exam prep materials.
  6. Have the tools for the job, this means not relying on borrowing from others. The guy who dosen’t spend in the way of his tools ,is a fool. Even if you are just starting out and don’t have much ,at least have the basics and be mindful of the upkeep of your tools.

All in All, be a Professional, don’t refer to yourself as an Electrician if you’re an apprentice, because you can not lie or bullshit your way through this industry…

Being Cordial with Coworkers

Relationships that begin out of friendliness , get old quick. Mainly because mask are worn by everyone playing by the unspoken rules of politics.

Todays workforce is plagued with prejudices and simple indifferences that are disguised by handshakes and smiles. You have to remove your emotions for ones Ill will towards you and just focus on perfecting you craft through work and of course the MONEY.

Being Professional allows you to displace that feeling of things being personal. Be who you are without compromising your integrity or income.

Replace negative perceptions with positive outlooks. There’s always an upside or benefit, and that’s where you’ll need to focus your attention, especially when you’re trying to make it through the day.

Try to understand another’s position by placing yourself in their shoes. No one’s perfect and everyone has a job to do. But the capacity in which their job must be done ,may be the challenging factor.

STAY POSITIVE
